The 47th course was held at BARC Training School-Gurukul, Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad during April 05-07, 2011, had a total of 88 participants from NFC, MIDHANI, DMRL, NPCIL, Private Industries and few students. Dr. R.K. Bhandari, President, Indian Vacuum Society and Director Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata was the chief Guest. Shri R.N. Jayaraj, Chief Executive, Nuclear Fuel Complex, DAE, Government of India had inaugurated the course. In the inaugural function Shri Sunil Tonpe, Convener, CVST-11 welcomed guests and participants, Shri S.K. Gupta, Hon. Secretary, IVS briefed about activities of IVS. Shri R.N. Jayaraj, Chairman, CVST-11, Organizing Committee gave introduction of course programme and emphasized on the need of such courses for R&D and Industries. Dr. R.K. Bhandari, President, IVS delivered presidential address, and Shri K.V. Mirji delivered vote of thanks. A large number of IVS members and associated dignitaries from NFC, MIDHANI, DMRL and NPCIL had attended the inaugural function.
The Indian Vacuum Society has been conducting a number of short-term courses at graduate and technician levels on vacuum science and technology on topics ranging from low vacuum to ultrahigh vacuum. So far it has conducted 47 such courses in different parts of the country and imparted training to more than 1500 persons in the field. Some of these courses were in-plant training courses conducted in the premises of the establishment and designed to take care of the special needs of the establishment.
The course syllabus included all relevant topics like basic fundamentals of vacuum, production & measurement of vacuum, leak detection techniques, design of large vacuum system, fabrication techniques, selection of material for Vacuum application and O & M of Vacuum Systems in Industries. The demonstration of a Helium Leak Detector and Turbo pump was arranged by M/s. Pfeiffer Vacuum. Shri Yatin P. Nakhare, Regional Manager and his colleagues had demonstrated the working of internal components was explained and was assembled back to show the whole working assembly. Participants had extensive discussions and were exposed to vacuum application in different field of research and industries.

The feedback session and valedictory function was attended by many senior officers of NFC, organizing Committee members and participants. The participants from both, the R&D institutes and the industries appreciated the quality of course, course material and overall arrangement.
